A man has been jailed for stealing around £8,000 worth of items from a property in Tyseley.

Jordan Chalmers, currently of no fixed abode, committed the burglary at the multi-occupancy residence in September this year.

Having gained access to the property and upon discovering one of the rooms was empty – the room’s occupant was in hospital at the time – Chalmers made his way in and stole cash and several high value items. He also took a number of knives from the room.

Forensic officers were called after the victim returned from hospital and realised that someone had gained entry to his room and made off with his belongings. There were no witnesses to the burglary but following an examination of the property, forensic officers on the scene lifted a fingerprint from a toolbox. The print was matched to Chalmers.

After failing to stop for traffic officers on 20 October, the 26-year-old was detained and subsequently charged with the offence. Chalmers, a convicted sex offender who was also wanted for recall to prison, initially denied the charge but pleaded guilty following further evidence at court.
