AstraZeneca Withdraws Covid-19 Vaccine Worldwide After Admitting Rare but Potentially Life-Threatening Side Effects
British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has announced the global withdrawal of its Covid-19 vaccine. Despite being proud of the vaccine, AstraZeneca admitted that rare but potentially life-threatening blood-related side effects were reported. The company decided to withdraw the vaccine after administering over three billion doses.
According to the BBC,
AstraZeneca voluntarily revoked the marketing authorisation for its vaccine, known as Covishield in India and Vaxzevria in Europe. The decision reflects a commercial need for updated vaccines to tackle newer Covid variants.
The vaccine can no longer be used in the European Union, as reported by the *Telegraph*. Additionally, the company is currently facing a High Court lawsuit in the UK, involving over 50 claimants and grieving families.
