Thousands of British citizens have launched an online campaign to boycott PureGym, following controversial comments made by the company’s CEO, Humphrey Cobbold.

Speaking on BBC’s ‘Question Time’ from Stoke-on-Trent, Cobbold expressed support for the Israeli government’s defensive actions, sparking immediate backlash on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

The campaign, using the hashtag #BoycottPureGym, has rapidly gained momentum among users, with no official response issued from PureGym regarding the unfolding situation.

The Birmingham Times reached out to PureGym for a statement, to which the gym chain’s spokesperson replied succinctly,

“PureGym won’t be commenting.”

This incident highlights the increasingly common phenomenon of consumers using social media to influence corporate policies and express their political and ethical concerns.
