Police have arrested two people following a robbery at a shop in Hodge Hill yesterday (12 June).

Officers were called to The Money Shop at the Fox and Goose at around 2.35pm, after two men forced their way into the shop, assaulted staff and stole cash before running off.

Officers raced to the scene and carried out an area search for the men.

One man was spotted running along Washwood Heath Road. As he was detained, several officers were assaulted resulting in one of the officers requiring hospital treatment.

A second man was arrested from his home address shortly after.

The men, aged 42 and 31, remain in police custody.

Superintendent Emlyn Richards, from Birmingham Police, said: “This was a great arrest by officers who despite getting injured, managed to detain one of the suspects.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank those officers and wish them a speedy recovery. This job isn’t easy and on a daily basis they put their lives before others.

“This must have been a scary time for the staff at the shop who I hope feel reassured that we now have two people in custody.

“Reducing offences of robbery is a force priority and we are running Operation Ruby to catch those involved.”
