Shabana Mahmood’s First Statement as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice

Shabana Mahmood MP has expressed immense pride after being appointed as the new Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice. In her first statement posted on X, she wrote:

“This is the greatest honour of my life to walk into as the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice yesterday. Before politics, I was a lawyer. I understand the deep challenges facing our justice system. But there is so much we can do. The hard work starts now.”

Mahmood shared a picture on X, where she was seen smiling and warmly welcomed. Despite losing a percentage of her vote share, Mahmood successfully retained her seat in Ladywood during the UK General Election. In her victory speech, she addressed the challenges faced by her and her supporters during the campaign.
