A man has been arrested following a dramatic incident in Highgate, Birmingham, today, where police officers were injured after their vehicles were rammed during a routine patrol.
At approximately 9:30 AM, officers from Project Guardian, a taskforce dedicated to tackling serious youth violence, attempted to engage with a man acting suspiciously in a VW Scirocco on Montpellier Street. Instead of cooperating, the man tried to flee the scene, ramming three police vehicles and a parked car in the process.
Three officers sustained injuries during the incident. One was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged, while the other two officers suffered minor injuries.
Following the arrest, officers discovered tools and multiple sets of number plates inside the Scirocco, raising further concerns. A 40-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of a series of offences, including attempted wounding of police officers, going equipped to steal, criminal damage, and aggravated vehicle taking.
He is also being held on suspicion of dangerous driving, drug-driving, failing to stop for police, and possession of a bladed article.
Investigations are ongoing.
