A 22-year-old woman, Jia Xin Teo, has been found guilty of murdering her newborn baby in Coventry. The verdict was delivered at Warwick Crown Court on 24 October following the tragic incident that occurred in March this year.

Police were called to Teo’s address on Raglan Street on 6 March after hospital staff raised concerns when she arrived showing signs of having recently given birth. When asked about the birth, Teo denied having had a child, which led to fears that the baby had been abandoned.

Officers attended her home, where they discovered the body of a baby girl in a box. Teo later confessed to giving birth in secret, expressing fears that her family and friends in Malaysia would find out and it would impact her studies. She also claimed to have been hearing voices that instructed her to dispose of the child.

Teo has been remanded in custody since her arrest and will be sentenced at a later date.
