Five men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms following a brutal robbery in which a man was subjected to a horrifying ordeal, including being burned with a lighter, struck with a glass bottle, and forced to strip. The attack, which took place on Lozells Road in Birmingham, left the victim shaken after he was also threatened with being stabbed and shot if he attempted to flee.

The incident occurred on 16 September 2023, when the victim, a man in his 20s, was approached by Mohammed Hamza Miah and Zeshan Hussain, who initially said they wanted to speak to him. The situation quickly escalated as they threatened and restrained him against a wall, at which point Saleh Ahmed, Roman Ahmed, and Nadir Mohammed joined in, subjecting the victim to further violence.

The gang filmed parts of the assault and shared it on social media, aiming to humiliate their victim. However, the footage aided police in swiftly identifying and arresting the perpetrators. Each of the five men denied involvement but was convicted following a trial.

  • Zeshan Hussain**, 23, from Roway Lane, Oldbury, was sentenced to five years for robbery.
  • Mohammed Hamza Miah**, 23, of Frank Fisher Way, West Bromwich, received six-and-a-half years for robbery.
  • Saleh Ahmed**, 23, of Lozells Road, Birmingham, was jailed for five-and-a-half years for attempted wounding.
  • Nadir Mohammed**, 23, of Pershore Road, Birmingham, also received five-and-a-half years for attempted wounding.
  • Roman Ahmed**, 24, of Northleigh Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to five-and-a-half years for attempted wounding.

Detective Constable Naomi Guzder, from the robbery team, condemned the attack, describing it as a “savage” act by individuals “prepared to use violence and humiliation.” She affirmed that tackling robbery remains a priority, with Operation Ruby underway to apprehend offenders.

This sentencing marks a decisive step in addressing violent crimes across the region, ensuring justice for victims and safety for the community.
