Birmingham City Council has taken a major step towards modernising its waste management operations by signing a contract with renowned vehicle manufacturer Dennis Eagle for 151 new state-of-the-art refuse, recycling, and food waste collection vehicles.
The cutting-edge fleet is set to begin arriving in March 2025, marking a significant upgrade to the city’s waste collection services. The investment will replace ageing council-owned vehicles and hired alternatives, enhancing service reliability for Birmingham residents while reducing the council’s reliance on rented equipment.
Following a competitive tender process, Dennis Eagle was chosen for offering innovative and cost-effective solutions tailored to Birmingham’s needs. The fleet, designed to navigate the city’s diverse road infrastructure, meets the latest emissions standards and complies with Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone objectives.
Equipped with advanced safety features, such as comprehensive camera systems and low-level access points to reduce crew injuries, the vehicles aim to improve both operational efficiency and working conditions for waste collection teams.
Councillor Majid Mahmood, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, hailed the move as a milestone for the city:
“This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable and efficient waste collection services to the people of Birmingham. By replacing outdated vehicles with a state-of-the-art fleet, we are not only improving the working conditions for our crews but also taking a step towards a more sustainable future.”
Richard Taylor, Sales and Marketing Director at Dennis Eagle, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the strong partnership spanning over 30 years:
“Our purpose-built refuse collection vehicles play an essential role in ensuring bins are collected week in, week out. We thank Birmingham City Council for trusting Dennis Eagle to continue supporting its services.”
This initiative underscores Birmingham City Council’s commitment to delivering high-quality public services and aligning with environmental sustainability goals, ensuring a cleaner, greener future for the city.
