Two women have been taken to hospital following an incident involving a fairground ride at Centenary Square, Birmingham, this evening.
Two men were arrested following the collapse of a Christmas fairground ride in Birmingham city centre.
West Midlands Police confirmed that the individuals, aged 55 and 21, were taken into custody at the scene on Thursday evening on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and obstructing police officers.
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) was alerted to the scene at 7:29 pm and responded with a significant emergency presence, including two ambulances, five paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, a critical care paramedic, two Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS) emergency doctors, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
A spokesperson for WMAS said: “On arrival, crews found 13 patients. Two women were treated by ambulance staff for injuries not believed to be serious and were taken to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.”
The spokesperson added that nine women and two men were assessed by medics at the scene. They were given self-care advice and discharged without needing further hospital treatment.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of the fairground.
