*Smethwick, December 17, 2024* – Authorities have charged a 30-year-old man in connection with the fatal hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of a two-year-old boy in Smethwick.
Sharjeel Shahzad was arrested yesterday following a two-car collision on Dartmouth Road just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 14. He now faces multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and failing to stop after the collision.
Shahzad has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow, December 18.
In addition to the young boy who tragically lost his life, a 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man who were traveling in the same vehicle remain in serious condition in hospital following the accident.
