A Birmingham man has been jailed for a violent attack that left one man with life-changing injuries and resulted in two police officers being assaulted in Sparkbrook.
Michael Pinder, 31, of Langleys Road, launched the brutal assault on Stratford Road on Saturday 19 April. Emergency services were called to reports of disorder, where they discovered a man with extremely serious head injuries.
Pinder was arrested at the scene but became violent as officers attempted to detain him – kicking one officer in the chest, headbutting another, and spitting inside a police vehicle.
Fortunately, neither officer sustained serious injuries.
Following a detailed investigation by the Major Crime Unit, Pinder was charged and later pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage, and possession of a Class B drug.
At Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (5 August), he was sentenced to nine years in prison, with a further four years to be served on licence.
Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from the Major Crime Unit, said:
“This started with a vicious assault which left a man with injuries that tragically, are life changing.
“Pinder further demonstrated the violence he’s capable of by assaulting our officers – which we will never tolerate.
“I am pleased to see this sentence reflects the severity of his crimes, and it means another dangerous offender is off the streets of the West Midlands.
