Two men have been convicted after the death of 21-year-old Ryan Sandhu in a crash on the Aston Expressway in Birmingham last year.

Ryan was driving just after midnight on 2 June 2024 when his car was hit by an Audi, forcing it into another vehicle. Paramedics rushed to the scene but sadly he was confirmed dead.

Police found that the Audi, driven by Saqlane Zafar, 28, had been speeding at 91mph in a 40mph zone through closed lanes. Officers also discovered nitrous oxide canisters thrown from the car.

Zafar was arrested and later admitted causing death by dangerous driving. Another driver, Muhammad Hamza, 28, was in a Nissan travelling with the Audi. After the crash he picked up Zafar and fled. He was later caught following a police chase and has now been found guilty of dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice.

The pair will be sentenced in November.

Sergeant Rich Evans said:
“This was a truly horrific collision that claimed the life of a young man, Ryan Sandhu, and devastated his family. One reckless decision behind the wheel can destroy lives forever.”

Ryan’s family described him as the “brightest light” of their lives, loved deeply by all who knew him.
