A man who fled the country after the fatal stabbing of a Birmingham teenager has been found guilty.
Ishmael Farquharson, 34, was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (12 September) of manslaughter and possession of offensive weapons. He will be sentenced on 17 September.
Sixteen-year-old Sekou Doucoure was stabbed to death on 12 July 2022 after being chased through Birmingham streets. He was attacked on a petrol station forecourt in Burbury Street and died from a single stab wound to the chest.
Farquharson fled abroad after the killing and was on the run for three years. He was arrested in Spain in January following a joint operation between West Midlands Police, the National Crime Agency and Spanish authorities.
Two other men, Pierre Thomas and Fardi Jafal, were jailed for manslaughter in 2023.
Detective Superintendent Laura Harrison said Farquharson thought he could escape justice but police worked “tirelessly” to track him down. She also urged young people to understand the dangers of carrying knives.
Sekou’s family described him as a “good boy and son” who loved football, supported others and is “sorely missed.”
