A Birmingham man has been convicted of abducting and sexually assaulting a young girl after luring her into a house earlier this year.

Mohammed Abdulraziq, 32, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court of false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault of a female under 13, and assault on a woman.

The court heard the five-year-old had been playing in the street on 30 March when Abdulraziq took her into a house. Her mother and a friend, after a frantic search, heard crying from inside and tried to intervene. When the friend attempted to climb through a window, Abdulraziq punched her.

Members of the public forced their way into the property and detained Abdulraziq until police officers arrived and arrested him.

Detective Sergeant Nicky Simms, from the Central Complex Child Abuse Investigation Team, described Abdulraziq as a “predatory individual” and praised the bravery of the girl and her mother during the investigation.

Abdulraziq will be sentenced at a later date.

Survivors of sexual assault are legally protected with lifelong anonymity.
