With the shops reopening and the first weekend in December approaching, police are increasing patrols in Birmingham city centre to help keep you safe.
Local neighbourhood officers are teaming up with officers from our specialist Project Guardian taskforce – set up last year using government money to tackle youth violence – to provide a high visibility presence within the city centre.

In addition, police are also utilising tactics named Project Servator, which are designed to disrupt a range of crime while reassuring our communities.
Uniformed and plain clothed police officers are trained to identify the tell-tale signs that someone is intent on committing crime and are supported by specialist police resources such as search dogs, armed officers, drones and a network of CCTV cameras. Police also work with security staff and shop retailers.
Our Project Guardian team will be using a knife arch in the city as part of our ongoing commitment to reducing knife crime and tackling those who carry weapons.
Inspector James Tandy, from our Project Guardian team, said: “With Christmas fast approaching and the shops reopening this week, police are expecting the city centre to be busy.
“This year has been difficult and officers are conscious that people have had to made significant adjustments to their lifestyles. We want people to enjoy their Christmas shopping safely.
