More than 1.4m items of personal protective equipment (PPE) have now been distributed to care settings across Birmingham by the city council.

The deliveries are emergency supplies for care settings whose stock is running low, with 1,467,589 items delivered.

These include 606,525 pairs of gloves, 316,498 various types of face masks, 405,573 aprons, and 92,834 goggles, plus sanitiser and coveralls.

Cllr Paulette Hamilton, cabinet member for health and social care, said: “This is a huge amount of much-needed PPE going out to care settings and our own care workers.

“Care providers and staff are working really hard in difficult circumstances, as are council staff who are sourcing and distributing PPE for places where emergency supplies are running low.

“Our care workers are brilliant and I want to thanks them and all our providers for the tremendous work they continue to do, every single day.”
