A Birmingham man has been jailed for sexually abusing two young girls.
Trevor Spurrier began his abuse of the first girl by sexually touching her on a number of occasions, moving on to his second victim sometime later.
Due to their age, neither girl understood what was being done to them. They reported the abuse when they were older and detectives from our Public Protection Unit began their inquiries.
Throughout the investigation, which lead to Spurrier’s arrest in June 2020, the officer in charge of the case was in regular contact with the victims, guiding them through the legal process and getting support from organizations who could help them deal with what they had been through.
Spurrier, 47, of Harborne Lane, admitted five charges of sexual assault at Birmingham Crown Court.
Today (Friday 10 June) he was jailed for six years and nine months. He will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
DC Nicky Simms, from the Public Protection Unit, said: “Spurrier committed awful sexual offenses, taking advantage of the girls’ age and lack of understanding.
“These offenses have had a significant impact on both victims’ lives and despite this they have conducted themselves with dignity throughout, and I hope that this sentence gives them some closure on that horrific part of their lives. They were so brave to speak out. They are an inspiration to so many.
“This case also highlights that it doesn’t matter if the offenses are non-recent, we take reports of sexual abuse seriously and work with survivors to get them the support they need and bring offenders to justice.”
The victims have also asked us to pass on this message, especially to those suffering in silence.
They said: “We are very grateful for all the support the police have given us.
“We could not have gone through this without all their kindness and understanding and we absolutely urge anyone who has gone through a similar experience, or who is still going through it, to tell someone and get some help.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel.”
