A man has been jailed for over 16 years after fatally stabbing his housemate in the stomach during a confrontation at their home in Acocks Green.
Mohammed Ibrhim, 45, of Warwick Road, was sentenced to 16 years and 8 months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court after admitting to the murder of 60-year-old Morteza Ajdani.
Emergency services were called to the property at 2.35pm on 1 February 2025, where officers discovered Mr Ajdani lying unresponsive on the bathroom floor with a single stab wound. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police search uncovered three kitchen knives left in the sink with water running over them. Ibrhim initially claimed that Mr Ajdani had taken his own life, suggesting he had “had enough.”
However, CCTV footage proved otherwise. It showed Ibrhim confronting Mr Ajdani in the communal kitchen before arming himself with a knife and following him into the bathroom where the stabbing occurred.
Ibrhim was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder. He initially denied the charge but changed his plea to guilty during his trial on 28 July.
Detective Chief Inspector Alastair Orencas said:
“Our thoughts remain with Mr Ajdani’s family and everyone who knew him and has been affected by his loss.
“Our team carried out a full and thorough investigation and thanks to their hard work we were able to uncover Ibrhim’s attempt to cover up his crime.
“He’s now behind bars for his actions, and I hope his conviction eases some of the pain felt by Mr Ajdani’s loved ones.”
