Akhmed Yahkoob Loses Battle Against Shabana Mahmood, Who Retains Ladywood Seat

In the UK General Election 2024, Shabana Mahmood retained her seat in Ladywood, despite losing 40.5% of her vote share. The results were not close, with Mahmood securing 15,558 votes, while independent candidate Akhmed Yahkoob received 12,137 votes.

In her victory speech, Mahmood addressed the challenges she and her supporters faced during the campaign, stating,

“Me and my family, as well as people who were campaigning for me, faced harassment, but I am happy with my victory.” She expressed gratitude to her constituents,

saying, “Thank you to the residents of Birmingham Ladywood for re-electing me as your Member of Parliament.”

Following her win, Mahmood posted celebratory pictures on social media, showing her laughing and wearing boxing gloves.
