Police are appealing for information after an 80-year-old man sadly died following a collision involving a taxi in Handsworth.

The incident happened at around 5.25pm on Wednesday 2 July on St James Road. The elderly man was sitting on a wall near a church when he was hit by a taxi that was making a U-turn.

He suffered serious injuries to his leg and was taken to hospital. Sadly, his condition worsened and he died on Friday 4 July.

Police say the driver of the taxi, a grey or silver VW Touran, is helping with enquiries. Officers are supporting the man’s family during this difficult time.

Sergeant Richard Evans from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said:
“We’re appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward. We are especially keen to speak to the driver of a second vehicle that pulled into St James Road and may have seen the taxi making the U-turn.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website or by calling 101, quoting log 3300 of 2 July.
