A Birmingham man has been found guilty of possessing a video showing how to make a bomb.

Adam Mahmood, 20, from Platt Brook Way, Sheldon, was arrested in April 2024 after police searched his home and seized his phone.

Experts later found a 15-minute video on the phone which gave step-by-step instructions for making explosives. Birmingham Crown Court heard that Mahmood had deliberately searched for the video. Other extreme material, including execution videos, was also discovered.

Police also found messages about making a sword, along with a half-finished sword and several knives in his bedroom.

In interview, Mahmood admitted writing the online posts and owning the weapons but denied being a terrorist.

Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst, from Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands, said:
“The videos found on Mahmood’s phone were dangerous and promoted extreme violence. The bomb-making guide was simple to follow and could have been used by anyone, making it very dangerous in the wrong hands.”
