Birmingham City Council is proud to be a venue host for the fast-paced and prestigious Kabaddi World Cup.
With the Kabaddi World Cup set to arrive in 2025, Birmingham City Council is proud to be a venue host for this fast-paced and prestigious sports tournament.
The World Cup will take place between 17th and 23rd March 2025 across the West Midlands, with men’s and women’s teams from 16 countries across 5 continents competing at the tournament.
Birmingham City Council is one of four venue hosts and will be welcoming world-class competitors to Nechells Wellbeing Centre for the group stages of the World Cup.
Kabaddi is a contact sport, and teams are split into raider and blocker roles. Teams score points by entering the opposition team’s territory, tagging an opposition member and returning to their half of the mat without being tackled to the ground.
Last year, Nechells Wellbeing Centre hosted the third annual edition of British Kabaddi League Grand Final, highlighting the sport’s growing grassroots interest, with the 2025 World Cup is the first edition of the tournament to be hosted outside of Asia.
The prestigious World Cup is a unique opportunity to maximise the legacy benefits from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in fostering an economic and sporting legacy across the city.
Councillor Sharon Thompson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills said: “Following the success of the British Kabaddi League’s Grand Final at Nechells Wellbeing Centre last year, we are excited to again welcome the kabaddi sport community to Birmingham for the group stages of 2025 Kabaddi World Cup.
“The city council is committed to maximising the sporting legacy of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, with the upcoming tournament an exciting opportunity to watch world-class sport and inspire spectators to get active and involved with their own grassroot sport teams.”
