Birmingham’s much-loved Frankfurt Christmas Market has returned, kicking off the festive season in spectacular style on 1 November. Now in its 24th year, this annual event brings the charm and magic of a traditional German Christmas market to the heart of Birmingham, making it the UK’s finest festive destination.

This year’s market boasts 60 beautifully adorned stalls lining New Street and Victoria Square, offering an array of German treats and festive delights. Visitors can savour hot Glühwein, schnitzels, spicy Bratwurst, and other mouthwatering delicacies while browsing a unique selection of handcrafted gifts, decorations, toys, and jewellery – perfect for adding a sparkle to the holiday season.

Centenary Square’s iconic big wheel and ice rink also make their return, open daily from 10:00am to 10:00pm, all the way through to 5 January 2025 (closed on Christmas Day). These favourite attractions are sure to dazzle, giving both locals and tourists an exciting experience under the twinkling lights of Birmingham.

Adding to the excitement, the market’s famous bandstand in Victoria Square will host live performances, including open mic sessions every Monday, offering a stage for talented young performers from across the city. In a thrilling twist, the two top acts will secure a primetime December slot, a remarkable opportunity to shine before a festive crowd. Choirs from Birmingham’s schools, charities, and community groups will also fill the air with heartwarming melodies, creating an unforgettable Christmas atmosphere.

Since its humble beginning in 2001 with just 24 stalls, the Frankfurt Christmas Market has grown immensely, becoming the largest market of its kind outside Germany and Austria.

Each year, millions flock to Birmingham, drawn by the warm festive ambiance and a touch of German tradition in the heart of the UK. This unique connection to Frankfurt – Birmingham’s twin city and home to one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets – adds an extra layer of authenticity and magic to this celebrated event.

With its enchanting stalls, festive food, music, and holiday spirit, Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is more than an event; it’s a cherished tradition and a source of pride for the city.
