A grocery store in Bordesley Green has been forced to close after police recovered more than 100 canisters of nitrous oxide during a joint operation with Birmingham Trading Standards.

The action was taken against 7 Star Grocery Store on Coventry Road following concerns raised by local residents. Officers from the Bordesley Green Neighbourhood Team carried out an operation in June, followed by a return visit, which led to the seizure of the canisters.

Police successfully applied for a three-month closure order, banning anyone from entering the premises until 19 November. Breaching the order could result in a fine, arrest, or even imprisonment.

This latest closure follows a similar order earlier this year against another Coventry Road store.

Sergeant Leon Allen, from the Bordesley Green Neighbourhood Team, said:
“We are listening to the community and grateful to residents for reporting their concerns. Our team is committed to tackling the supply of drugs and the associated disorder they bring, and we will be carrying out further operations throughout the year.”
