The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has updated its cold weather alert, warning that Britain could be facing temperatures as low as -11°C. The alert was issued on Thursday 2 March and is in place between 1am on Monday 6 March and midnight on Thursday 9 March.
Britain Could Be Facing Temperature of -11°C Level 2 Cold Alert issued for Birmingham
The North East of England, North West of England, and Yorkshire are now under a level 3 alert, while the West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, the South East, and Birmingham remain at level 2.
The Met Office and UKHSA have warned that all regions of England will experience cold weather from 1am on Monday 6 March to midnight on Wednesday 8 March, with low temperatures and wintry showers forecast across the country.
The UKHSA is urging people to stay warm and look out for those most at risk from the effects of cold weather. This includes elderly people, young children, and those with underlying health conditions.
The cold weather can lead to an increase in heart attacks, strokes, and respiratory illnesses, so it’s important to take extra care during this time. The UKHSA recommends staying indoors as much as possible, wearing warm clothing, and keeping homes heated to at least 18°C.
If you need to go outside, make sure you wear warm and waterproof clothing, and take extra care on icy or slippery surfaces. It’s also important to check on elderly or vulnerable relatives or neighbours who may need extra support during this time.
Stay safe and stay warm during this cold spell.
