A burglar has been jailed after one of our officers found him hiding in the garden of the Birmingham home he had just broken into.
James Ferrie, aged 32, was arrested within 30 minutes of us being alerted to the burglary in the Sparkhill area in the early hours of 16 December last year. Officers soon realised Ferrie had got out of the house through a small window in a rear store room.
So they headed round to the back of the house and on searching the garden found Ferrie sitting curled up by a flowerbed.
Ferrie, of no fixed address, admitted one charge of burglary and was sentenced to a four-year jail term when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday (28 May).
Det Sgt James Birtles of Force CID, said: “Although in this case nothing was taken, a home was broken into and we know how traumatic that can be for victims. “We are pleased that our officers’ quick actions on that night have helped put Ferrie behind bars.”
