The Handsworth community is grieving the loss of Allen Karam Chand, an 82-year-old beloved resident who tragically died after being found seriously injured on Soho Road.
Mr. Chand was attacked at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14th. Emergency services responded promptly, and he was transported to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, Mr. Chand succumbed to his injuries the following weekend.
In a heartfelt tribute, Mr. Chand’s family described him as a “loving and caring” individual who was deeply respected for his honesty and integrity. “Our father was loving, caring, and never deceived anyone. He taught us to respect the law as an ex-army man, and we will always miss him,” they stated. The family also shared a message of faith, emphasizing that while Mr. Chand is no longer physically present, his spirit lives on with Lord Jesus.
A preliminary post-mortem revealed that Mr. Chand died as a result of a head injury sustained during the attack. On Friday, January 17th, a 43-year-old man was charged with wounding in connection to the incident. He appeared in court the following day and has been remanded to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on February 14th.
