A dangerous driver who caused the death of a much-loved mother in Walsall has been jailed.
Hashim Aziz was involved in a fatal crash in November 2021, which resulted in the death of Baljinder Kaur Moore.
Now, the 23-year-old has been jailed for six years for causing death by dangerous driving.
On the day in question, 21 November that year, Aziz was driving in Broadway, Walsall.
He was spotted by witnesses driving an Audi S3 well over the speed limit and forensic investigators calculated that he was travelling at 97mph just 70 metres from the scene of the crash.
This is despite the speed limit along the whole of Broadway being 30mph.
At the junction of Broadway and Magdalene Road, he hit a Vauxhall being driven by Mrs Moore, who was attempting to turn right at the junction.
The minimum speed Aziz was believed to have been travelling at the time of the impact was 62mph and, although Mrs Moore was wearing her seatbelt, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators judged that if Aziz had approached the junction at 30mph, there would have been enough time for Mrs Moore to complete the manoeuvre safely.
Aziz, of Ida Road, Walsall, was jailed for six years and banned from driving for seven years.
At the time of Mrs Moore’s death, her family paid tribute, saying: “Everyone who truly knew Baljinder, but better known to them as Bal, knew her as a loving and kind-hearted person, beautiful both inside and out.
“She touched so many hearts, brought happiness to anyone she spoke to. Such a shame she had to depart from the world at a very young age.
“She will be truly missed.”
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Speeds like these are in no way acceptable on any public road but definitely not a busy residential street.
“Every road user is entitled to expect some protection and speed limits are put in place for just that reason.
“Aziz showed a complete disrespect for everyone that night and it is Mrs Moore and her family that have paid the price for his dangerous and selfish actions.”
