The heartbroken family of a man who died following an assault in Birmingham city centre last month say that he’ll never leave their hearts.
Amarpal Atkar (33) from Oldbury, was seriously injured in Stephenson Street just before 2am on Saturday, 31 July and tragically died in hospital later the same day.
In a statement released today his family said: “Amarpal, our beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. Police have been left devastated and heartbroken by your sudden passing. You were always the life and soul of any room you walked in. You have left our lives but you will never leave our hearts.”
A 34-year-old man was arrested after the incident on suspicion of murder. He’s on police bail with strict conditions while our detailed investigation continues.
Detective Inspector Jim Mahon, who is leading the investigation, said: “First and foremost, my deepest condolences are with Amarpal’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Our investigation continues to look at the circumstances surrounding his death and I am still appealing for people to help to piece together the information officers already have.
“If you think you’re able to help, but haven’t yet spoken to Police, please do the right thing and come forward – it’s not too late.”
