Police have arrested a fifth man on suspicion of involvement in a violent street attack that led to the death of Dudley dad Reece Cox.
The 19-year-old was detained at an address in Birmingham this morning (19 August) on suspicion of murder.
Four men who were arrested yesterday (18 August) on suspicion of murder remain in custody after detectives were granted more time to question them.
Detective Inspector Laura Harrison from our Homicide Unit, said: “We’re making swift progress and we continue to work around the clock to get everyone we believe played a part in the attack.”
Mr Cox was in Bull Ring, Sedgley just before midnight on Saturday when it’s understood he stepped in to protect another man who was being assaulted.
He was then violently punched and kicked and, despite the efforts of paramedics, pronounced dead at the scene.
Dudley Police Borough Commander, Superintendent Jason Anderson, said: “This is a despicable crime where a young man has tragically lost his life. An entire community has been affected by this shocking incident and we urge those responsible to do the right thing and hand themselves in.
“Local officers continue to support the community and we thank them for the information they have already provided.”
