Takeaway fans rejoice as Aldi has today announced it is merging Britain’s favourite lockdown 3.0 takeaways into one delicious new product – the Aldi Chip Shop Curry Bites! Priced atjust£1.79 (240g) and on sale 4th March, Aldi fans are sure to get curried away with these delicious spicy morsels.
A recent study revealed Britain’s latest lockdown loves, including a penchant for fish & chips and curry! Orders for fish and chips have increased by 330% this year compared to 2020[1] – whilst a staggering 11% of us are eating curry between three to seven times per week!
Aldi has answered the UK’s takeaway cravings, by combining these beloved cuisines into one tasty bite sized treat. Aldi’s Chip Shop Curry Bites are coated in moorish light and crispy batter and filled with oozy, comforting Chinese style curry sauce and delicate bites of flaky cod.
Whilst there is a long standing rumour curry sauce originated from a Head Chef at The Ritz (who knew!) the true origin of the ‘proper’ British curry sauce is largely unknown . Although there is no denying, since the 1970s it has cemented itself as a UK fast food staple, lovingly poured over chunky chips, pies – and now available in bite size morsels from Aldi!
The Chip Shop Curry Bites are part of Aldi’s latest Fresh Meat Specials range, which includes some wonderfully retro favourites all for under £3. From beautifully moist Beef Steaks in Cola Glaze (£2.99, 300g) to Southern Fried Pork Schnitzel and a Cajun Pork Schnitzel (£2.89, 300g), shoppers can be transported back to the disco loving 70s.
The range also includes Cheese and Bean Chicken Kiev (£1.49, 260g) – move over Weetabix! – and Hawaiian Gammon Steaks (£2.79, 340g) – the ultimate in foodie nostalgia!
