Birmingham city center officers have taken enforcement action in the indoor markets today after complaints that Covid regulations were not being adhered to.

Police had several reports that some traders and customers were not wearing masks inside the building, which contravenes the current Government restrictions.

Today (13 Jan), officers have issued 18 fixed penalty notices and directed two people to leave the premises for not wearing masks.

Police also arrested two people for failing to appear at court after taking their details for not wearing a mask.

Inspector Chris Harrison said: “We are committed to the four Es approach of engaging, explaining and encouraging, but this has already been done several times in the market so we have had to take enforcement action.

“We all have to play our part by wearing masks in indoor public places to help prevent the spread of the virus, protect the NHS, and save lives.”
