Investigation launched into house fire in Erdington

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while a 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

Police have launched an investigation after four children were rescued from a house fire in Birmingham this morning (30 October).

Officers were called to Round Road in Erdington at around 2.30am following reports of a house fire.

Four children, aged 12, 10, eight and four, were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while a 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Both remain in police custody.

A car has also been recovered after it hit a stationary fire engine that was attending the house fire.

The house has been cordoned off whilst emergency services examine the scene to establish the cause of the fire.

Fire Control confirmed the first appliance arrived in just under three minutes. The fire affected 80% of the ground floor with 100% of the property affected by smoke. The Fire Investigation team confirmed that the cause of the fire was arson.
