Lidl GB has announced that it is increasing pay for hourly-paid colleagues to a minimum of £12.40 across the country, up from £12. In London, colleagues will see entry level pay rise to £13.65, up from £13.55. The new base rates equal the best hourly pay in the sector and will ensure that the discounter continues to reward colleagues with industry-leading pay.
The latest move represents an investment of over £2.5million, following a £37million investment in March 2024, as well as an £8million raise in September 2023, bringing the total investment in pay over the past 12 months to nearly £50million. Lidl has grown from a single store in 1994 to a network of over 960, and now has over 32,000 employees in Britain, thousands of whom will benefit from this pay jump.
Lidl GB’s hourly pay rates for colleagues also increase with length of service, with pay reaching £13.00 nationally and £14.00 within London. These top rates are the highest hourly pay amounts in the industry.
The investment follows record trading and market share gains over the Spring period, with Lidl’s market share now standing at a record 8%.
Ryan McDonnell, CEO at Lidl GB, commented: “As we continue to expand, we are welcoming more customers and attracting more colleagues into the business every day. It’s absolutely right, therefore, that we continue to offer industry-leading pay”.
Stephanie Rogers, Chief Human Resources Officer at Lidl GB, added: “The critical role that our colleagues play in driving our growth is always front of mind for us, which is why we’re committed to offering extremely competitive pay alongside a raft of other benefits. We want to continue to support and strengthen the teams that run our stores and warehouses every day, whilst attracting the best new talent. This latest investment helps us to do just that”.
As well as competitive pay, Lidl GB also offers colleagues numerous other benefits including enhanced holiday entitlement, life assurance and optional health and dental insurance. In addition to this, Lidl GB is the only discounter to offer a colleague discount in store and has the most competitive maternity pay package in the sector.
The latest pay rise will apply from 1st June 2024. Those interested in working at Lidl GB can view available roles on its careers website: https://careers.lidl.co.uk/.
