A third life-saving bleed kit has been installed in the Washwood Heath community.

Life-saving kit has been installed at Ward End Fire Station, which could save lives in the community.

A brand-new bleed kit, generously donated via funding from Project Guardian to support partnership with West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service, has been installed to provide immediate assistance in the event of catastrophic bleeds.

Following the installation at Ward End Fire Station, Washwood Heath residents can have added peace of mind knowing they have another layer of protection in case of emergencies.

This is actually the third bleed kit installed in the Washwood Heath community thanks to the proactive efforts of our local neighbourhood team under Operation Elevate.

Other bleed kits can be found at Gulf Petrol Station, Alum Rock Road, and Nafeez Bakery, Alum Rock Road.

Sergeant Kiran Patel from our Washwood Heath neighbourhood team said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Project Guardian Taskforce for their support in helping fund another bleed kit installation, and to WMFS for allowing us to install one in such a prominent location at Ward End Fire Station, serving the Washwood Heath community.

“Bleed kits save lives. They may seem small, but their presence in a community can make all the difference.

These kits empower bystanders to become first responders, potentially saving lives in those critical moments before medical help arrives.

“We’ve already installed kits at two other locations within Washwood Heath, and we’re actively training local businesses on how to use them in case of an emergency.”

But what exactly is a bleed kit? These versatile kits are packed with supplies such as bandages, tourniquets and gloves – which are essential as they can allow treatment to begin before paramedics arrive.

On average it takes an ambulance seven minutes to reach a patient. But bleeding from serious injuries can prove fatal in as little as three minutes. A Bleed Control Kit can save lives so treatment can begin before paramedics arrive.

Every second counts when dealing with a major bleed. The ability to quickly access these supplies in a clearly marked location can literally mean the difference between life and death.
