A man and a woman face jail after a shotgun was fired at a house in Oldbury earlier this year.
In the early hours of 17 February, a stolen black Hyundai was driven along Vicarage Street several times before stopping outside a property. The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Asaan Hussain, got out and fired a shotgun twice at the living room and bedroom windows. Fortunately, no one was injured and the car fled the scene.
CCTV enquiries linked Hussain to the shooting. Footage showed him scouting the area days before the attack and arriving by taxi shortly before firing the weapon. After the incident, Hussain met 31-year-old Sima Khan near Sandwell Valley Country Park and the pair travelled to Wales.
Both were later arrested at their home addresses in Birmingham. During a search of Khan’s property, officers discovered a self-loading pistol with live ammunition hidden under her bed. Although the weapon was not used in the shooting, Khan, of Navigation Road, was charged with assisting an offender and possession of a firearm. Hussain, of Edgbaston Road, was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
The pair denied the charges but were found guilty following a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court. They are due to be sentenced on 31 October.
Detective Sergeant Lucy Mooney, from the Major Crime Unit, said:
“It’s miraculous no one was injured. This was a planned attack and Hussain had prepared his escape in advance. Khan helped him afterwards and was even found with another firearm. We are committed to taking dangerous offenders off the streets.”
The case formed part of Operation Target, the West Midlands Police drive against serious and organised crime.
