A man has been arrested after a series of carjackings and incidents of vehicle damage in Birmingham city centre, all occurring within a 30-minute span yesterday afternoon.

The 34-year-old suspect was detained by police after targeting two cars, a moped, and damaging two other vehicles. The string of events began at around 3:40 pm, when a female driver was forcibly removed from her car in Lancaster Circus, which was then driven away and subsequently crashed in nearby Dartmouth Circus.

Following this, the suspect attempted to steal a moped, and after the attempt failed, he threw bricks at an ambulance, causing damage to one of its doors. Just minutes later, a second car was stolen from its driver in Dartmouth Circus and crashed shortly after on Dartmouth Middleway, near Jennings Road. A Toyota vehicle was also damaged by a brick during the spree.

The suspect tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended by officers who had flooded the area. The arrest took place around 4:00 pm.

One of the victims required hospital treatment but has since been discharged. The 34-year-old man remains in police custody on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbery, and criminal damage as investigations continue.
