Early this morning (3 June) officers arrested a 31-year-old man from Birmingham on suspicion of rape. The arrest was made as part of an investigation into a series of messages that appeared online this weekend (30 – 31 May).
The investigation was launched by officers in Police Public Protection Unit in response to a number of allegations of sexual assault.
Detective Inspector David Sproson said: “Although the arrest marks a great step in our investigation, we believe there are a number of women who have not yet spoken to us, and we would encourage them to do so.
“We do not underestimate the impact incidents of sexual abuse have on people, but please be assured that all reports of rape and sexual assault are taken seriously and will be investigated by West Midlands Police.”
