Police have charged a 19-year-old man as part of an ongoing investigation into the murder of Riyan Ali, aged 19, who was found with critical injuries on Alderson Road, Washwood Heath, on Saturday, 19 October. The suspect, Faieq Ghazanfar, also aged 19, was arrested on Monday, 21 October, and is now charged with conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life. He is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today.
The incident unfolded when shots were reportedly fired on Alderson Road shortly before 10:30 am last Saturday. Tragically, Riyan Ali’s injuries proved unsurvivable, and he passed away on Monday. Police continue to appeal for witnesses and urge anyone with dashcam or doorbell footage to come forward to assist with enquiries.
In a heartfelt statement, Riyan’s family expressed, “As we navigate this profound loss, we hold on to the beautiful memories and the unbreakable bond that will always remain. In honouring his spirit, let us celebrate the love he gave and the impact he made. He will forever be missed but never forgotten, living on in the stories, laughter, and love shared by those he cherished most.”
Meanwhile, three other individuals—two men aged 46 and 22, and a 40-year-old woman—previously arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released on police bail as investigations continue. Another man detained on Monday has been released without charge.
