A son who kicked his mother’s friend to death moments after a chance meeting is facing a life sentence.

Daman Sehra, 22, and his uncle Derek Brennan, 34, launched a ferocious attack on Amjad Khan the flat of a friend of Khan’s, who was also Sehra’s mother and Brennan’s sister.

The pair arrived at the property on Yardley Close, Oldbury, in the early hours of 8 June last year and told her that they needed to clean themselves up after a fight.

Mr Khan, aged 32, arrived at the flat while the pair were there and went to shake hands with the men but was attacked shortly after in what is still a motiveless incident.

The men repeatedly kicked Mr Khan in the face and head as his friend tried in vain to protect him, before she called the police.

Whilst she was on the phone, both men continued to hit Mr Khan to the head with objects lying around the flat, including a child’s hard plastic toy.

When they realised police had been called, the attackers fled through the living room window, taking Mr Khan’s bag carrying his phone, keys and bus pass.

Officers and paramedics arrived and found Mr Khan critically injured. He was taken to hospital, but despite every effort to save him, his life support machine was turned off on 13 June.

Sehra was arrested in Oldbury later on the day of the attack. He answered no comment to all questions.

Brennan phoned police to hand himself in later the same day. He denied all knowledge of the attack.

Both men, of no fixed address, have been found guilty of murder following a two week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

They will be sentenced at the same court next Wednesday.

DCI Gill Davenport, who oversaw the investigation, said: “This was a brutal, ferocious attack which came completely out of the blue, against a man who these two killers had only just met.

“The motive behind it is not entirely clear, but what is clear is that Mr Khan was unable to defend himself against this attack by two men who have a long history of violence.”

“Our thoughts are with his family today who have been steadfast through a harrowing trial. I am pleased that they have finally received justice for their son.”
