A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison following a string of brutal and sickening attacks on a vulnerable woman.
Farnaz Farabi, of Jasmine Grove, Coventry, inflicted nearly 18 months of horrifying physical and sexual abuse, leaving his victim with broken bones, permanent scars, and deep psychological trauma.
Farabi’s crimes included hitting the woman with a hammer, raping her, holding a knife to her throat, and pouring boiling water over her body. The abuse came to light in March after concerned colleagues noticed facial injuries and reported their suspicions to police.
An investigation by the Public Protection Unit uncovered the extent of Farabi’s violence. The victim had suffered a broken hand, a fractured ankle, a fractured nose, and numerous lacerations over time.
Despite initially denying his crimes, Farabi eventually pleaded guilty to rape and wounding offences during a trial at Warwick Crown Court. On Wednesday (11 December), he was sentenced to 19 years in prison, followed by an additional seven years on extended licence.
Pc Ellis Burbidge, who led the investigation, described the case as one of extreme cruelty. “This was horrific physical and sexual abuse of a vulnerable woman over a sustained period of time,” he said. “The victim has extensive and permanent scarring and is now working to rebuild her life in a safe environment surrounded by support.”
Farabi’s sentencing highlights the commitment of law enforcement to tackling domestic abuse. Officers are working with victims through initiatives like the Domestic Abuse Desk, which uses video calls to document firsthand accounts and connect victims with support services.
Anyone experiencing domestic abuse or aware of someone in danger is urged to seek help. In emergencies, call 999 immediately.
