A man has been jailed for firearms offences in Birmingham.
Martin Macdonald was sentenced to over five years of imprisonment – for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence – after pleading guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on 17 April (Wed).
Macdonald, of Station Road, Stechford, was arrested and subsequently charged following an incident in Lyttleton Road, Stechford, where the 42-year-old was seen brandishing a firearm and pointing it recklessly.
Our firearms officers quickly attended the scene where he was detained before any injury was inflicted, and the firearm was recovered.
Following a thorough investigation run by the Major Crime Team based at Wolverhampton Police Station, Macdonald was charged and subsequently sentenced.
DC Ryan Stokes of the Major Crime Team, said: “I would like to thank the West Midlands Police firearms officers whose prompt intervention removed this threat from the community.
“These reckless actions, if not intercepted, could have developed into a more tragic investigation.
“This case displayed criminal intent of the highest nature and for that, justice has been served. A split-second decision can destroy lives and rip families apart along with communities.
“We continue our fight in removing all illegal firearms from our streets.”
We’re currently running Operation Target which sees us take a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences.
