A man wanted in connection with two nasty robberies on elderly women has been arrested after we pursued a stolen car yesterday.
Police received reports that a Fiat 500 stolen from a home in Wolverhampton had a tracker on board that was pinging in the Stourbridge area.
Patrol units quickly picked up the car and its movements were monitored from above by the police helicopter.
The stolen car was driven dangerously, speeding through residential areas and at times on the wrong side of dual carriageways, before its tyres were stung in Hagley Road.
It eventually ground to a halt in Simmons Drive, Birmingham, at around 6.45pm having shed a tyre and a 41-year-old man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a brief foot chase.
The suspect will also be questioned about robberies on 14 and 16 August in which a 78-year-old woman was robbed in her Harborne home and another attacked in the street for her handbag.
In the later robbery the victim, also aged 78, suffered a broken hip after being dragged to the ground during a violent bag snatch in the street.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
