The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has removed Nurse Madona John Moses from its register following a misconduct hearing held virtually from 13 to 17 May 2024. The hearing, overseen by Chair Debbie Hill and panel members Margaret Marshall and Carson Black, concluded that Ms Moses’ fitness to practise was impaired.

Ms Moses, who did not attend the hearing, faced several charges related to her conduct while working at Heartland Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on 6 July 2018.

The panel found that Madona Moses muted and altered the alarm settings on a patient’s monitor, failed to escalate the patient’s deterioration to senior staff, and did not assist a colleague in treating the patient.

These actions were deemed to lack integrity and fell significantly short of the standards expected of a registered nurse.

Ms Moses admitted in a recent email to the NMC that she had given up on nursing and did not wish to attend the hearing or proceed further with the matter. Despite her absence, the panel proceeded with the hearing, citing the need to address the public interest and the impact on witnesses scheduled to give evidence.

Mr Smalley referred the panel to a recent email from Ms Moses, in which she stated:

‘I’m Madona Moses, I have given up on nursing.
I will not attend the meeting and do not want to proceed this matter further. Thank you.’

The panel concluded that Ms Moses’ conduct posed a risk to patient safety and brought the nursing profession into disrepute. Her lack of insight and failure to demonstrate remorse or strengthened practice contributed to the decision to impose a striking-off order. An interim suspension order of 18 months was also put in place to cover the appeal period.

This decision underscores the NMC’s commitment to maintaining high professional standards and protecting public safety.
