West Midlands Police have confirmed that over 400 individuals have been arrested and remain in custody following a major two-day crackdown on crime across the region.
The arrests took place across multiple custody blocks, including Perry Barr, Oldbury, Bournville, Stechford, Coventry, and Bloxwich. Detainees are being held for a range of offences, including assault, criminal damage, and burglary.
Among the 31 individuals arrested for various assault offences is a 34-year-old woman, detained on suspicion of assaulting a police officer at a Birmingham hospital last night.
In a separate incident in the early hours of the morning, officers responded to reports in the Shirley area and arrested a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of assaulting a taxi driver.
Officers on patrol also stopped a vehicle with cloned plates. Following a brief foot chase, two men aged 32 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of burglary. Cash, Class B drugs, gloves, and tools were recovered from the vehicle.
Later that evening, two men aged 24 and 27 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Shortly afterward, officers made another two arrests – men aged 21 and 28 – on Broad Street, Birmingham, for the same offence.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said:
“Our officers are working around the clock to keep the streets safe. This series of arrests shows our continued efforts to tackle crime and bring offenders to justice.”
Police have reassured the public that operations will continue throughout the week as part of ongoing efforts to reduce crime across the region.
