West Midlands Police have launched an urgent appeal for the driver of a grey Porsche Cayenne to come forward following a fatal collision in Smethwick last night (14 December). The tragic incident on Dartmouth Road, just before 11pm, claimed the life of a two-year-old boy and left two adults in serious condition.

Emergency services rushed four adults and a child to hospital. Despite their efforts, the young boy sadly passed away. A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man remain in a critical condition, while another man and woman, both aged 30, are reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators revealed that the Porsche Cayenne involved in the collision was stolen earlier this month. The vehicle was reportedly travelling from the island on Kenrick Way when it collided with a Toyota. The driver of the Porsche fled the scene, prompting a manhunt by police.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit made a heartfelt appeal:
“Our thoughts remain with the family of the little boy at this extremely difficult time. I urge the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and come forward. Running away was the wrong decision; it’s time to make the right one.”

He also called on witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward and assist the investigation.

The road was closed in both directions overnight for specialist reconstruction work but has since reopened.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by email at SCIU@westmidlands.police.uk, via Live Chat on WMP Online between 8am and midnight, or by calling 101 and quoting log 4421 of 14 December.
