Birmingham — Police have launched an appeal to identify a man after a bus driver was racially abused and violently assaulted in Kings Heath.

The shocking incident occurred on Thursday, 17 April, at around 2.20pm on the 11C bus travelling along Vicarage Road.

According to West Midlands Police, a male passenger became aggressive after the bus driver asked him to put his dog on a lead. The man refused, then racially abused the driver, spat at him, and launched a physical attack, leaving the driver with cuts to his forehead.

Investigating officer PC Agnieszka Collier condemned the attack, saying:

“This was a nasty, unnecessary assault on a man who was just doing his job. We would urge anyone who was on the bus at the time, or who recognises the man pictured, to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Police have released a CCTV image of the suspect and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who recognises the individual or has details that may assist the investigation is urged to contact West Midlands Police via their website or by calling 101, quoting incident number relevant to the date.
