Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has publicly criticised the decision to prevent Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters from attending their team’s upcoming Europa League fixture against Aston Villa in Birmingham.

Posting on social media, the Prime Minister said, “This is the wrong decision. We will not tolerate antisemitism on our streets. The role of the police is to ensure all football fans can enjoy the game, without fear of violence or intimidation.”

The remarks come amid growing debate over the restrictions placed on visiting fans, which were introduced following security concerns surrounding the high-profile European tie.

Several political figures and community leaders have since echoed Starmer’s comments, urging authorities to find a balanced approach that upholds both public safety and fairness for all supporters.

Aston Villa and Maccabi Tel Aviv are scheduled to face each other in early November, with discussions between local officials, police, and football authorities ongoing.
