A man who killed a mother and daughter in a devastating collision in Birmingham has been jailed for over 13 years.
Mohammed Ibrahim, 25, was sentenced to 13 years and three months in prison after pleading guilty in May to causing the deaths of Amanda Riley, 49, and Linda Philips, 72. The fatal incident occurred on 26 December 2023 on Meadway, at the junction with Kitt’s Green Road in Shard End.
Ibrahim, who was driving a BMW 420D at speeds between 80 and 84mph in a 30mph zone, failed to stop at the scene. He later presented himself at hospital, where he was arrested.
He was convicted of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Ibrahim had been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the West Midlands Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:
“Amanda and Linda tragically lost their lives, and others were injured due to the selfishness and dangerous driving of Ibrahim.
He made no attempt to help anyone and ran off, rather than face up to what he’d done. But we managed to quickly identify and arrest him.
This incident has devastated a family, who we have continued to support during these tragic times. Nothing will ever bring Amanda or Linda back, but we hope that this sentencing will provide the family with a sense of justice.”
The court heard how Ibrahim’s reckless actions caused irreversible damage to a family on what should have been a joyful holiday.
